Breakfast with Boxers at a Glance

World Boxing Association fans will remember William Joppy as the guy who took the WBA Middleweight Championship in a June 1996 bout against Japan’s Shinji Takehara.   Dubbed “an active, skilled, and sly fighter” by The New York Times, Joppy would go on to defend his title two more times.  William Joppy is a Lincoln Park, Maryland native. Joppy’s other notable fights include the likes of Roberto Duran, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Lucian Bute.

Now retired from boxing, Joppy has a new purpose; which is to share his life story and motivate others.  William’s presentation is about victory and defeat both in and out of the ring, rights and wrongs, people and places as well as other antidotes for those who may feel powerless or overwhelmed with life’s challenges.

William’s message of hope encourages both young and old to stay in the ring and to keep getting back up when you are knocked down, that life is not fair, and quite often you have to want to win to get ahead.   As a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, William is very involved in the community. In addition to delivering his message of becoming a champion in every situation to area schools and churches, William is also the Director of Breakfast with Boxers; an organization he founded to help bring awareness to homelessness.  William has travelled around the world, as a boxer and missionary, and is a proud father of five.  Additionally, William is also a popular Personal Trainer, Marathoner, avid reader and trumpet player.  His passion for life shines through in all he does. You will be able to connect with William as he shares his life of which you will relate to and laugh about, engage and connect, reflect and remember, but most importantly “get back up” when the issues of life knock you down.
